Steeped Tea in Summer: How We Hydrate from the Inside Out

Steeped Tea in Summer: How We Hydrate from the Inside Out

Last week’s heat wave was HOT.
Not just “summer warm” — we’re talking sweltering, sleep-on-top-of-the-sheets hot!

With no AC and a stone house that traps heat like a kiln, it felt impossible to get comfortable — especially upstairs, where it turned into a full-blown pizza oven every night.

The one thing that actually helped me stay cool?
Cold, steeped herbal tea. Simple, refreshing, and surprisingly effective.

Each morning, I’d boil water while the house was still quiet, then steep handfuls of loose-leaf herbs — or formulated loose tea mixes.

Once cooled, I’d add a pinch of salt (for the minerals and balance), and, sometimes, a spoonful of raw honey.

These teas became our hydration lifeline.
Just plants doing what they do best with so many added health benefits

Why It Works:

  • Loose-leaf teas are less processed, more options and you can use as much or as little as you like and no bags or strings just herbs to compost.

  • Covering your jar while steeping keeps all that herbal goodness from evaporating.

  • Salt (we love redmond real salt) helps your body actually use the water you're drinking.

  • Honey adds natural sweetness and a touch of energy — especially raw and local.

We’ve learned so much from our tea workshops over the years.
That herbs are more than flavour — they’re medicine.

And in summer, cooling herbs like peppermint, lemon verbena, hibiscus, and rose are nature’s gentle way of caring for us.

One of our favourite sources? Stonehouse Holistics — their teas are organic, wild-gathered, and made with so much integrity it shows up in the taste and they offer delivery right to your door.

You can enjoy them at room temperature or pop them in the fridge for an iced version. Either way — keep them nearby. You’ll thank yourself all day long.
